Case Study

Nelson Way, Bilton

Bernhard’s were commissioned by Affinity Sutton to develop a public open space at Nelson Way, Bilton. In addition to the macadam multi use games area the works involved the construction of a childrens play area, fitness trail, Natratex footpaths and associated lighting.

The multi use games area was situated within an area of the site that was prone to flooding. An intensive drainage system was therefore introduced which had to connect to the mains outfall via a series of soakways in order to control the discharge rate. The poor ground conditions demanded that a geogrid had to be laid in conjunction with a geotextile membrane in order to stabilise the formation.

Due to the free access to the site a robust perimeter fence had to be erected that was capable of resisting the impact of general sports and the potential for vandalism.
