Soft Landscaping
Soft landscaping was our core activity when the business was founded and remains a major part of our operations today.
We pride ourselves on delivering an outstanding quality of service and expertise. Our clients can be assured that our site and management teams approach all projects with a professional degree of care and attention to detail.
All site teams hold horticultural qualifications and are fully experienced in topsoiling, tree planting, ornamental and forestry planting, turfing and seeding works.
Urban Planting
The successful establishment and protection of trees in urban areas has been a challenge for many years; with the increase in brownfield site development and out of town parking the need for trees in hard surfaced areas is dramatically increasing. Whilst we recognise the importance of increasing and maintaining leaf canopy in built up areas we are also faced with the challenge of ensuring that tree roots do not cause long term damage to roadways and buildings; the need for sustainable load bearing solutions has never been greater.
By embracing new methods and solutions we have ensured that we have stayed at the forefront of modern technology and methods, having a wide range of management qualifications and skills in construction, civil engineering and drainage. We pride ourselves on being able to combine these disciplines to implement and value engineer urban tree planting schemes.
Hard Landscaping
We are often advised by Landscape architects that hardworks require a ‘landscaped’ rather than an ‘engineered’ finish. Bernhard Landscapes appreciate and fully understand that there has to be an artistic input and an attention to detail that is not always apparent from a set of levels and measurements. Sometimes it takes an eye for detail to create the aesthetic appearance of a path, wall, paved area or architectural structure. We accept that not all of our workforce possesses this artistic bent; we therefore have designated teams which have the necessary skills, experience and that special artistic approach.
Children’s Play Areas
We have constructed over one hundred children’s play areas during the past ten years utilising a range of safety surfacing’s and play equipment. Our specialism in this field has evolved to the point whereby we are now the preferred installers for some of the largest play equipment and safety surface manufacturers in the country. Working largely for local authorities and manufacturers we utilise our wide range of skills and services to offer a complete turnkey approach to the construction process without recourse to specialist external installers.
Multi-use Games Areas
We offer a design and build service to produce site specific solutions for all types of sports including multi-use games areas, tennis courts, five-a-side pitches and athletic facilities. Not being tied to a specific supplier we offer a full range of synthetic carpets and underlays to suit every budget. Earthworks, base construction, surfacing, fencing and floodlighting all form part of a turnkey solution. From a kick-about area to a multi court enclosure, or a single run up to a full size athletics track, we offer surfaces and construction techniques to ensure that facilities are built to precise requirements and exacting standards.
Natural Grass Sports Facilities
We recognise that some clubs and schools have limited budgets. Many soils can be vastly improved by amelioration techniques rather than complete reconstruction, making this an affordable alternative. We therefore try to work with the existing soils and drainage capabilities to produce the best facility for the available budget. Our expertise includes winter games pitches, bowling greens, tennis courts and cricket wickets, including earthworks, drainage, seeding, turfing, irrigation, fencing, floodlighting and maintenance.
Grounds Maintenance
We undertake grounds maintenance for commercial and industrial premises, sports and recreational areas, and offer an annual maintenance contract for all sites following initial construction. We also carry out initial clearance works for overgrown sites. For larger sites we offer a caretaker role, providing a nominated full time working supervisor to take control of all works, utilising supplementary labour as and when required. All grounds maintenance employees are qualified in the application of chemical herbicides and pesticides and are fully experienced in proactive maintenance regimes.
Roof Gardens
The benefits of roof gardens within urban areas are enormous in contributing to improved air quality, biodiversity and wildlife, energy conservation, storm water control and human health. We understand however that large scale commercial roof gardens can sometimes pose a considerable headache for main contractors, landscape architects and landscapers alike, with all failing to fully appreciate the particular issues faced by each party. Our extensive skill-sets and experience enables us to bridge the gap between construction and landscaping thereby helping to resolve the demanding logistical problems posed by working at height and in restricted spaces.
