Case Study

Loke Road, Kings Lynn

Loke Road Recreation Ground is situated off Loke Road in Kings Lynn. Bernhard’s were commissioned by Kings Lynn Borough Council to carry out a reconstruction of the existing open space in order to introduce a number of additional features to promote increased usage of the area. The project cost was £180,000.

The main elements of the works were as follows:

  • Formation of new mounds and minor contouring
  • Construction of new footpaths and seating areas
  • Supply and installation of a new trim trail with associated equipment
  • Construction of a new children’s play area
  • Installation of bespoke metal fencing

Construction of a new children’s play area enclosed by metal railings and incorporating tables and seating, ornamental glacial boulders, tegula setts and edgings, and litter bins. In order to give a natural effect the play equipment was set within rubber safety tiles which upon establishment allow a grass sward to envelop the tiles.

Construction of a trim trail incorporating  eight pieces of  equipment from Fresh Air Fitness. The equipment was set directly into the grass areas adjacent to the main footpath to enable ease of access by all ages. For additional safety the individual pieces were underlain with rubber safety tiles.

A number of additional features by local artists and manufacturers were incorporated including sculptures, mosaics and metalwork.

By careful liaison with the architect and client the works were completed to budget and on programme. An opening ceremony was launched in which we assisted with planting works undertaken by children from the local community.
